At least 15 dead at a bus that fell off a cliff in India





At least 15 people died and twelve were injured by rushing into a ravine the bus they were traveling in the state of Himachal Pradesh in northern India, he told Efe an official source.

The accident took place at about 16.00 local time (10.30 GMT) on a road in the district of Kinnaur, said regional police superintendent Rahul Nath, who explained that the car was "completely destroyed".

He said the injured ones have been rushed to a hospital in the area, where three high-altitude mountain ranges, including the Himalayas stretch.


The police source said the cause of the accident still under investigation. According to local daily Indian Express, survivors of the incident explained to the police that the driver lost control of the bus after trying to pass another vehicle

Serious traffic accidents are common in India and in most cases are caused by the poor infrastructure and the scant respect for drivers to traffic rules.

Some 231,000 people die each year in road accidents in India, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2013, making it one of the countries with the highest number of deaths on the roads.
