Is it possible that a pill could make you more intelligent?

Can you imagine that a pill could improve your cognitive abilities? Researchers have discovered that the drug for narcolepsy - a condition in which a person's brain gets not regulate its sleep cycle, resulting in the person falls asleep suddenly - could have this effect. For years the drug has been used for this purpose, but had not been studied until now.

Scientists are still not sure how the modafilino works, although past studies have found that the drug increases levels of neurotransmitters - histamine and orexin - which regulate the sleep-wake cycles. It also raises serotonin levels (which alters the mood) and glutamate, which helps to excite brain cells.

These chemical changes cause the medication to be effective to treat narcolepsy, but also have side effects on other brain functions. Increase the concentration of the patient, make it more adept to learn and perform tasks that involve a high level of focus.

The researchers reviewed 24 studies on the effects of modafinil on cognition published between 1990 and 2014 and found that the drug actually does provide an improvement in tasks that require "planning and decision making, flexibility, learning and memory, and creativity ". Besides the drug it showed few side effects, making it a strong candidate to become a 'pill intelligence'. (The dilemma of taking pills for cognitive performance).
